Economic Development Board's Sonoma Valley Community Profile 2011

Community Foundation Sonoma County commissioned a demographic study to better understand the community needs and priorities in the Sonoma Valley.  This study will be invaluable for grant proposals and for better targeting of service delivery in the Valley.  Some of the key findings of the Sonoma Valley Community Profile include:

  • The percent of households living below the 200% federal poverty level is significantly higher in the Springs area (32%) than in the rest of Sonoma Valley;
  • There is a significant adult educational attainment gap between whites and Hispanics in Sonoma Valley.  The majority of Hispanics above the age of 25 in Sonoma Valley do not have a high school diploma, while on 8.2% of whites in Sonoma Valley have not graduated from high school;
  • Unemployment rates have been historically higher in the Springs neighborhoods, particularlly in Fetters Hot Springs and Agua Caliente;
  • Hispanics comprise the largest demographic group in the Sonoma Valley School District making up 48.3% of total enrollment.
